Joy to the box! 🎉
Dear beloved Dynamix family,
First off, I want to thank everyone who came out on Friday for Friday Night Lights! The energy was high and it felt like old times!

For those that missed it, there will be a lot more events to come within the year!
As most of you know, and for those who don’t, I, Hugo Rivera, have taken over as owner of Dynamix. I would like to formally (re)introduce myself even though every one of you have known me for some time (and some since Dynamix first opened over 10 years ago).
I started out at Dynamix before the place even opened. It’s truly the best box I have ever been to. I started out cleaning and then gradually started my coaching career. From there, I moved up to become the head coach/programmer. And now the dream of owning the box has finally come true.
Justin and Ashley have created an amazing community and for that we are eternally grateful. They’ve built some elite athletes out of us and have brought people together from all walks of life. They are the reason we are here today.
It’s one of the first boxes in Astoria and it will continue being the best box in the neighborhood. We hear it all the time: our vibe and community are unmatched! And I’d like everyone to know we will do our very best to continue making it the place we all love.
For the Dynamix family, this is our second home. And if you’re just joining us, you’re coming at a very good time. Throughout the next few weeks, we will try to get everyone together for a town hall meeting to discuss the very exciting future plans for Dynamix.
Now, I can’t do this on my own. I’d like to introduce my partner, David Choi, who will play a huge role in continuing to build our home. Here’s David to give a brief intro of himself!

Greetings fellow CrossFit fans! I’m absolutely thrilled by this opportunity to serve this proud community right here in Astoria, Queens! This will be my 6th year engaged in the “Sport of Fitness.” I have to say, starting CrossFit was hands down, the best decision of my life. And joining Dynamix was the next best thing that I’ve experienced in my CrossFit career.
I’ve been to many boxes, domestic and international, and have been a volunteer at the CrossFit Games since 2018. In fact, one of my favorite pastimes was to travel to new and exotic locations, just to do CrossFit there. Or if I’m on location for a shoot, I’d always plan ahead by searching for the best box in town and I’d book my hotel right next to it. The goal, of course, was to immerse myself in the local CrossFit culture (and meet cool, fitness-minded locals). But nothing stood out to me as much as the level of professionalism and attention that you get from the coaches at Dynamix. And let’s face it, Hugo’s coaching/programming is straight fire.
I was hooked from Day 1!
And I can’t say enough about the beautiful people here! Music-lovers, artists, dancers, entrepreneurs, doctors, city workers, service members… We have so much to learn from each other. And how everyone is so down to earth and genuine, that right there is priceless. This is the epitome of a CrossFit community and the way CrossFit was meant to be.
Just a little background on me, I’m a CrossFit L1 trainer, actor, biohacker, technologist, entrepreneur, producer/filmmaker, web developer, and technology risk manager by trade. By day, I do Cybersecurity and IT Audit for Scotiabank (Canada’s 3rd largest bank), but I come from a fairly extensive history in internet and technology startups. I started acting and producing films at 35 and I’ve produced videos with CrossFit Games athletes and event films for regional CrossFit competitions. That’s right, we’re going to make a movie out of this one day–in space! haha.
Finally, I am so incredibly grateful for everyone who has come before me here, Justin, Ashley, Hugo, Glenn, Katie, Maria, and everyone I’ve met and have yet to meet. And to Hugo and Glenn again for bringing me in like family. I hope to do us all proud and I look forward to being a humble servant for the box!
